Photostability Chamber
A photo stability chamber is a specialized chamber or environment designed specifically for conducting photo stability testing on pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and other light-sensitive products. This chamber simulates and controls light exposure conditions to assess the effects of light on the stability, degradation, and quality of these products over time.
Photo stability testing is crucial in determining the photostability characteristics of a product, especially for items that are intended for storage, transportation, or use in environments where they may be exposed to light. The chamber provides controlled exposure to specific wavelengths and intensities of light, such as UV or visible light, to replicate real-world conditions.
The photo stability chamber typically features precise control over temperature, humidity, and light exposure parameters. It allows for customization of exposure durations, light intensities, and spectral compositions to match the specific requirements of the product being tested.
By subjecting the products to controlled light exposure within the chamber, photo stability testing helps identify any potential degradation, color changes, loss of potency, or other undesirable effects caused by light exposure. What is Photostability test ?
Photostability comes in two sizes and can provide a constant climate (types WT3PSC-L / WT7PSC-L / WT14PSC-L) or just a constant temperature (types WT3PSC / WT7PSC / WT14PSC). The photostability testing cabinets are characterised by an ideal light, UV, temperature and humidity (typesWT3PSC-L / WT7PSC-L / WT14PSC-L) distribution and can thus guarantee absolutely reproducible light, UV and climatic conditions. The lighting equipment used complies with the ICH Guideline Q1B Option 2 and enables photostability tests to be carried out in less than 100 hours.
One of the most important requirements in photostability tests is the homogeneous irradiation of the specimens. For this reason, allthe specimens have to be positioned at the same distance from the light source. The inhomogeneous emission of light by fluorescent lamps is compensated with the help of special light and UV filter systems, thus a homogeneous irradiation of the entire storage area is achieved. For recording of the illumination and UV irradiance this system can be equipped with corresponding light and UV sensors. With this option, entering of setpoint values in lxh and Wh/m², e.g. 1.2 million lxh and 200 Wh/m², is made possible to have a fully automated and also fully documented process.
